Basic Precision Measurement

This course provides the student with theory and skills needed to perform dimensional inspections. Students will learn to study a part print, select, and use the proper measuring tool(s). Concepts introduced include precision, discrimination, accuracy, and calibration. Previously learned print reading skills are expanded to include Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.  For students with limited knowledge and experience, this course is recommended prior to taking the GD&T offered at the Learning Center. 

Objectives:

• Build working knowledge of precision, discrimination, accuracy, repeatability, traceability, calibration, and tolerancing.

• Identify, select, and use portable measuring instruments and attributes gages.

• Make open setup measurements using common measuring equipment. Compare and contrast absolute & relative dimensions and measurements.

• Operate or explain computer assisted optical comparator, manual coordinate measuring machine, and a precision spindle.

• Recognize GD&T symbols, and interpret and measure conformance to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing call outs.

• Check surface texture and flatness using a profilometer and optical flats.

• Understand and participate in gage control systems.

Machine Repair is a study of mechanical components used in a variety of industrial applications. Students will learn to work with mechanical components through hands-on labs.
In this course, students will work with the following:
• Fixed and variable speed motors
• Plain bearings, ball and roller bearings, linear bearings, and tapered bearings
• V-belt, chain, and gear drives
• Indirect and direct drive alignments
• Laser alignment equipment for direct drives
• Gaskets and Seals
• Lubrication on mechanical components

Industrial Electricity ll

Industrial Electricity II is an advanced study of industrial electricity providing comprehensive coverage of the control devices used in contemporary industrial electrical systems. The focus of this course is to provide the architecture for acquiring the knowledge and skills required in an advanced manufacturing environment. The course builds on electrical concepts from Industrial Electricity I and adds motor theory, building on circuit fundamentals and reinforcing these with practical hands on labs designed to reinforce the concepts and provide control systems design experience. These topics will be delivered through text, presentations and various exercises, and hands-on labs.

Pneumatics (Fluid Power 1)

Pneumatics (Fluid Power 1)

This course is a basic study of the principles of fluid power systems based on industrial applications. This course will have a heavy focus on pneumatic circuit operation and troubleshooting. Students will learn how to interpret a pneumatic circuit print and predict the operation of the circuit. The course will utilize the simulation software, Automation Studio, to understand how each pneumatic circuit operates. The course will also construct and troubleshoot the circuits in a controlled lab environment with industrial grade devices. The student will be introduced to hydraulic circuits, focusing on the safety of working with hydraulic systems and components, and interpreting hydraulic symbols in circuits. The student will also be introduced to controlling a pneumatic circuit with electrical/PLC circuits utilizing the simulation software in an asynchronous format.

Allen-Bradley PLC Level I

The course is a study of the installation, programming and troubleshooting of programmable controlled systems currently used in an industrial environment. The focus will be on Installation, Programming, Engineering and Maintenance tasks performed with PLC systems. The primary PLC used for this class will be the Allen Bradley SLC-500 and CompactLogix, using RSLogix 500, RSLogix5000 and RSLinx software. Industrial Electricity I is an introductory electricity course for skilled trade’s personnel. The course is a study of DC and AC electricity principles, with a practical approach to applications in an industrial environment. The learner will obtain a knowledgeable understanding of the key symbols and abbreviations associated with the electrical trade, acquire a comprehensive understanding of basic electrical terminology, apply Ohm’s Law to a number of relevant electrical applications, and synthesize a number of components into a working system involving series, parallel, and series parallel circuits.

FANUC

Fanuc certified course covers the tasks that an operator, technician, engineer, or programmer needs to set up, record, and/or troubleshoot programs on a FANUC Robot using Handling Tool Software. Completers of this course will receive an official level one certificate of completion for the Fanuc Handling Tool Operations and Programing course.

This course provides the students with a foundation in the skills needed to read and follow blueprints using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). The course deals with basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methods as interpreted in the ASME Y14.5M. The student will learn to read geometric tolerancing symbolism and terms.  For those with limited knowledge and experience, the Basic Precision Measurement Course is recommended as a prerequisite to GD&T.

Motors & Motor Controls

This course is an advanced study and laboratory for learners who have an understanding of electrical circuits, controls and desire practical hands on experience of various motor and control devices. Coursework involves hands on laboratory experience utilizing 120vac, 208/240vac, wiring demonstrations, and testing. Practical application of principles learned will be emphasized. Special topics in electricity will be introduced to the learners according to class interests. Topics will include ladder diagrams and their control of alternating and direct current motors. Motor starting sizing, circuit/overload protection, electrical motor branch wiring will also be introduced. The variable frequency drive (VFD) as a motor controller will be introduced as well as an introduction into the application of programmable logic controller (PLC) in motor control circuits. These topics will be learned through text, presentations, exercises and hands on labs.

Blueprint Reading

Emphasis on PRINT READING including lines, abbreviations, terminology, view identification,
dimensioning practices, dimensioning calculations, Tolerancing calculations, and sketching
including orthographic, isometric, section, and auxiliary views.
The course objective is for students to gain a basic proficiency for understanding and
manipulating technical drawings and associated conventions. The course material for Print
Reading and Sketching includes the alphabet of lines, orthographic projection, ordinary views,
section views, auxiliary views, pictorial sketching, dimensioning, Tolerancing, screw threads
and fasteners, mathematics for design and an introduction to geometric dimensioning and
tolerances.

This course is a study of the systematic elimination of the various parts of a system or process to locate a malfunctioning part. The learner will obtain a knowledgeable understanding of the key symbols and abbreviations associated with the electrical trade, acquire a comprehensive understanding of the various devices associated with an electrical circuit, synthesize a number of electrical components, recognize a malfunctioning circuit through proper meter application, and apply informed terminology while troubleshooting and restoring a malfunction.

Benchwork

Students are required to read prints, layout, machine, and fabricate projects utilizing the lab environment with emphasis placed on safety, tooling, precision, and accuracy. Topics include, materials, mechanical fasteners, measurement, tolerance, fit, layout, hand tools, power hand tools, drilling, grinding, sharpening, burring, filing, polishing, layout work on the bench, use of hand taps, and cutting threads with a die.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and perform safe job procedures.
    • Apply safe house keeping and maintain a neat work area, machines, and tools.
    • Identify and demonstrate the use of mechanical fasteners.
    • Identify and demonstrate the use of hand tools.
    • Identify and demonstrate the use of precision measuring devices.
    • Identify and demonstrate the use of materials, abrasives and grinding wheels.
    • Use a blueprint to plan and perform a part layout.
    • Identify drill sizes and understand sharpening techniques, demonstrate drilling and tapping holes,

    • Demonstrate the set up and use of the following: pedestal grinder, band saw, drill press, or other
    power machines and power hand tools.
